Yuri Petrovich Sheffer Russian Pilot Cosmonaut. Born 30 June 1947. Died 25 June 2001. Was married to cosmonaut Tamara Zakharova.

Personal: Male, Married. Born in Chelyabinsk, Chelyabinsk, Russia. Airplane crash at Zhukovsky Flight Research Center, Russia (heart failure). Zhukovsky Flight Test Center Graduated from Kachinsk Higher Military Pilot School, 1970. Graduated from test pilot school in Zhukovsky, 1977. Graduated from Moscow Aviation Institute, 1980. Russian Air Force Civilian test pilot for the Air Force Ministry.

Astronaut Career

Astronaut Group: MAP Group 4 - 1985. Deceased Entered space service: 2 September 1985. Left space service: 1996. Cosmonaut training September 1985 - 1987. Buran Test Pilot

After the end of the Buran-program he served again as test pilot and became 1999 Director, test pilot-school of LII, named after Mikhail M. Gromov.

Sheffer Chronology

2 September 1985 - MAP Cosmonaut Training Group 4 selected.. The group was selected to provide test pilots for Buran spaceplane.
